a random post by an even more important person. hmph!

hope. it's the quintessential human delusion, simultaneously the source of your greatest strength and your greatest weakness.
the title is just to spite chrissy greasy cuteandadorable tina. ^^

firstly lemme wish shilin&weili happy birthday again (:
secondly, lemme remind everyone to read the post below this, as it's important, although it's posted by someone not as important. (:
thirdly, sharon please give me back my thumbdrive with the photos inside asap. thanks (:

now.. as we all know, without purpose, we would not exist. it is purpose that created us. purpose that connects us. purpose that pulls us. that guides us. that drives us. it is purpose that defines us. that binds us. but all that is irrelevant to what i'm going to post.

photos! of the "celebration" yesterday.

singing the birthday song.

still singing.

and still singing.

birthday girls making a wish. each.

now comes the interesting picture. the look on khaishin's face seems to be one of intent concentration. now we see a hand from an unknown source reaching towards the cakes. after research and some random-number generation attempts, the picture somewhat concluded that the hand belongs to khaishin, who was trying to use an unorthodoxed method of getting food. (:

however, as you can see from this picture, khaishin is lookin away, as if disappointed that his planned was foiled by the two girls cutting the cake. =P

okay that's enough laming from me.

p.s. apparently this term we're going to have a change in almost all the tutors (except the one whom, it seems, everyone wants changed). so sad. :(

i shall end off with another joke.

There was a terrible bus accident. Unfortunately, no one survived the accident except a monkey which was on board and there were no witnesses. The police try to investigate further but they get no results. At last, they try to interrogate the monkey. The monkey seems to respond to their questions with gestures. Seeing that, they start asking the questions.

The police chief asks, "What were the people doing on the bus?"The monkey shakes his head in a condemning manner and starts dancing around; meaning the people were dancing and having fun.

The chief asks, "Yeah, but what else were they doing?".The monkey uses his hand and takes it to his mouth as if holding a bottle. The chief says, "Oh! They were drinking, huh??!" The chief continues, "Okay, were they doing anything else?"The monkey nods his head and moves his mouth back and forth, meaning they were talking.

The chief loses his patience, "If they were having such a great time, who was driving the stupid bus then?"

The monkey cheerfully swings his arms to the sides as if grabbing a wheel.

The Mock Business

Tennis is a fresh-faced starlet on the intertwingled longtail to the disruptive sports of tomorrow -as badminton became a thing of the past-. Swimming thinks you are so 2005.

If you're like thousands of other programmers, hackers, or other creative professionls out there, at one point in time you'd have considered not bringing your swimming costumes on Monday. And thats because you're constantly missing the point.

So there's this table with three chairs around it. It's a very old table. These same people have been sitting there forever. A man (to be known as Mr Mock) sits in one spot. Across him is you. And then there's that other chair.

I've sat there frequently. Basically, the Mr Mock pays me to find the second guy and convince him to buy what Mr Mock is selling. It's a pretty important function, maybe the most important. Without it, there's just one guy sitting at a table and nothing happens.

For performing this function, generally I'm contracted on a "work-for-hire" basis. That's nice and lucrative. Generally. This year, I'm contracted again, on a "work-for-nothing" basis. (imagine a poor donkey getting its ass kicked. That's just so not me)

If I were an actor and was cast in a potato chip commercial I’d be getting a check every thirteen weeks. If -just- some people says I was an actor, then I'd earn more from stupid people. But for all my efforts with Mr Mock, I get nothing; not even potato chips (although i'd personally prefer computer chips).

And like many small start-ups, I saw a lot of business dry up in the 3rd quarter this year. At this point in time, it seemed like I am being conspired against. Loyal clients (not that there were any to start with) started disappearing - only to reappear, walking around that old table during the entire duration of the meeting. In all fairness of course, there were clients who, despite their inability to pay, stuck with the Mr Mock's business. Others who borrowed a bright red trenchcoat to barter for a extra large one.

I'll refrain from telling the whole story of my business. Just a quick FYI, the original title for the post was

"The Fock Business"

Just getting that out there...

The moral being: never get involved in a land war in Vietnam (or not bring swimming costume for no reason).

random post.

okay this post is going to contain quite a bit of random stuff, so bear with me :)

well, first off (i know i'm not supposed to use this in an econs essay. but this is a blog post, so screw it xD), next wednesday (26 july), 9.10AM - 9.20AM (10min after econs lecture, 10min before physics lab. neither here nor there =\), there's a photo-taking session for the 2006 year book. the venue is the right wing of the central plaza, near the flag poles. if it rains, the session will be postponed to 2nd august (also wednesday, also screwed up timing).

next - helping our class band do some promotion ;)
tomorrow, 1.30pm, at heerens. yikhung, jiexun, singhwa (and others) performing.
please be there to support (:
some of us are meeting at 12noon for lunch (at somerset mrt control station). feel free to join in (:

next - helping our responsible pe rep..
reminding everyone to sign the umm... declaration form for the life-saving module and bring to the pool for monday's pe.

next.. be reminded that there are 2 birthdays next week.
shilin's birthday is on the 27th (thursday) and weili's birthday is on the 28th (friday). celeb plans?

finally.
DISCLAIMER - the following is for pure entertainment purposes. if you think that you are going to be offended / pissed off / affected / hurt by whatever follows, please stop reading here. :)

it seems that some guys were quite bored during the econs tutorial (i think we miss mrs tan's lessons =X), so they put their chinese literature skills to the test..

天涯何处无芳草,
美女何必华初找?
华初女子丑又老,
贴钱给我都不要,
看了她都受不了!

they passed the poem to the whole row of girls sitting in front, which then received responses like "IdIot!" written on the paper. at the end of the lesson, we decided to add a part about guys, so it turned out like this..

天涯到处都没草,
俊男必在华初找!
华初男子帅又高,
无比智慧精又妙,
美女看了都赞好!

but you know we don't mean everything we say. :)

废话多多让你笑,
口是心非何时了?
班上女子真窈窕,
宽容大量又可靠,
这种淑女谁不要?

:)

Well done for a successful SANDsational Race!!!

Dear all,

first of all, let me say a very big WELL DONE for the SANDsational Race @ Sentosa!!! A pat on the shoulder especially to Alex, who had planned the game and get his school's student leaders to help him as station master. Also, thanks to Mike for helping with the packing of goodies and prizes, Mdm Toh and husband for transporting all the things into Sentosa and William for staying throughout the event to help in phototaking. Well done!

Moving on, hope that we can take this experience and share it with the rest of the committee members. Perhaps, in the next YEC meeting, Alex can share about the challenges faced in getting the teams, the execution of the event as well as what can be improved on in the next event. I see this as a start of a series of events organised by YEC and i hope to see many more exciting events coming up. William, pls also remember to keep all the photos in a CD so that next time, we can showcase the YEC using the footages.

Here's some observation and recommendations i observed for this event:
  • Alex is the organiser for this event, he is also the one getting the students to help out as well as getting friends to participate. I thought it will be great if the committee can help to really push for participation, and allow Alex to concentrate on the planning of the games. It is also good to have 1 logistic IC to take care of the logistic arrangements including food arrangements on the day. It is rather taxing for Alex alone to handle all aspects of the event on the actual day. Would be great if there would be some helping hands.
  • More members should support by coming on the actual day, just to help out in miscellaneous things like photo taking, taking care of food etc. Also a good chance to mingle with the students as well as participation. In this way, can build a bond with them for future events.

Post event:
  • I had brought up to Mdm Toh that YEC can give all the student leaders a PAssion card each, complimentary, as a token of appreciation. In this way, they will be able to enjoy privileges and YEC get to increase membership. Since it is only $10 now, i think it is a good investment. In future, it would also be easier to get them into YEC.
  • For the student leaders, CIP points can be awarded for this project. Hence, Alex had sent me a sample letter and i had made some amendments. It would be good if this letter can be signed by Veronica and printed on YEC letterhead, to be given to the student's teacher incharge, to clock the hours for them. Veron, pls look through the letter to see if there's anything to add. If ok, can let Mdm Toh know so that she can assist to print out and let you sign.
  • Apart from the above letter for the teacher, it would be good if YEC can give certificates of appreciation to these students, for them to include in their portfolio. This would be a good gesture and hopefully, in future, they would help out in YEC events. Perhaps, Mike or William can design and get it printed on hard paper?
  • For all the above, i was thinking to further engage these students, YEC can invite all of them to come down on the next YEC meeting day and present the certs and letter to them. Had found out from Alex that exams will start on end of Sept. So better get them to come in August's meeting. :>

The above are just my recommendations, committee feel free to discuss and decide which is better. Let me know if i can be of help!

Think that's bout all, seeya soon.

PS: Pls email me on my personal email in the cc list if my office address bounced.

Thank you!

that wasnt posted by me. obviously. anyway. yes i am sharon. sharon PHUI. this is supposed to be my first entry at this class blog! but apparently someone had used my acct alr. hahaha. yes yes will try to upload the pictures at sentosa a s a p. hopefully.

since this is my first entry. i shall tell a joke. =)

Two old guys, Abe and Sol, are sitting on a park bench feeding pigeons and talking about baseball, like they do every day. Abe turns to Sol and says, "Do you think there's baseball in heaven?"
Sol thinks about it for a minute and replies, "I dunno. But let's make a deal: if I die first, I'll come back and tell you if there's baseball in heaven, and if you die first, you do the same."

They shake on it and sadly, a few months later, poor Abe passes on. One day soon afterward, Sol is sitting there feeding the pigeons by himself when he hears a voice whisper, "Sol... Sol..."

Sol responds, "Abe! Is that you?"

"Yes it is, Sol," whispers Abe's ghost.

Sol, still amazed, asks, "So, is there baseball in heaven?"

"Well," says Abe, "I've got good news and bad news."

"Gimme the good news first," says Sol.

Abe says, "Well... there is baseball in heaven."

Sol says, "That's great! What news could be bad enough to ruin that!?"

Abe sighs and whispers, "You're playing on Friday."
hello. im sharon. and i dont understand boobies =((((

SANDsational Race @ Sentosa

Preamble: This post contains many pictures. If you have a 56k dialup, I'm awfully sorry. Also, the videos posted here are in 3gp format. Most of them are hyperlinked from the pictures. "Videos available" will be used to denote the availability of them. Use Real Player to view them. If you don't have Real player, then wait for me to find time to convert them to another format. Refer to a previous post for videos from the dry run.

P.S. You may have to refresh the page a few times because my server times out after not being able to load all the pictures at one go.

My time estimation is really bad. No, I'm not always late. I'm more often than not, early. Too early. While most of the others arrived after 9, I reached Harbour Front at 8.20, feeling dumb. But anyway, more people came towards 9/10 and some of us played bridge before boarding the bus to Sentosa. At Sentosa, we boarded the Blue Line to Underwater World -

While others wore a black top, Ye Qing decided hot pink was a great colour -

Okay, so we went to the area behind Underwater World and started playing some Ice Breakers. First game was the conveyor belt. Alex made us lie down, but apparently, the sun decided to compete with Sing Hwa and all of us tried to shield from it -

But anyway, the game was played -

After that there was "Blow, Wind, Blow" and "The Finger Game" (pffft! stop thinking dirty!), which were quickly played -

Okay, so ended the ice breakers and went to do the "Spider Web". The big group of us were divided into two groups, which would alternate between doing "Trust Fall" and "Spider Web". As the girls would have guessed, Sing Hwa was complaining about the lack of strong people / excess of girls to catch his fall, so instead of falling, he sat down, but was given another try, to which, he performed better. (:

Can't say much about Spider Web, though. Pictures courtesy of Christina -

But anyway, we went to somewhere near the Visitor's Center and while the mentors and a representative from each station set off to their stations to prepare them. Those who stayed with Alex waited for the participants to arrive and played more ice breakers.

And Alex taught them the mucho clap and 姑娘 clap (videos available!) -

And Yik Hung demonstrates -

And so at 2.40, the race started (and the food came =X). Because my station was based at the Southernmost Bridge, I shall be narrating biasedly towards my experience. ^^ But of course, I shall collect some narrations from others' blogs too. (: The group which came first was the one from our class - Yik Hung, Sing Hwa, Ye Qing and Peidi. Since they've played the game before, we made things a little harder for them by making them turn 3 rounds before transfering the water. Despite Sing Hwa's poor performance during the dry run, the group did things extremely quickly. Videos available!

After Group 2, there was a long lag and Christina continued her hyper screaming mode (which was present and headache-inducing-if-it-was-in-a-different-environment throughout the whole day =P), adding on claims of her love for random people. Here's a video of Christina proclaiming her love for alex.

Other random things Christina / the rest of us did were like..
- Screaming at the top of her lungs, attracting a lot of attention
- Scream "Yum Seng" before drinking water, thus attracting attention as well
- Acted a random drama with Xin Miao (which Xin Miao reiterated her request for it not to be posted)
- Taught us some fruit song acapella
- Kenneth taught us some special JJC clap

Anyway, Group 3 lagged, so Group 3 and Group 4 came together. Alex made them shout from the topmost level of each tower, "SANDSATIONAL RACE" at the loudest possible volume to decide which group should play the game first. Before each group went out of sight, we did a "GROUP __ GOOD LUCK!" shout from the bridge. So cool (: The rest of the groups came and left.. Nothing much happened.. So, here're some group photos ^^

Meanwhile, at another station (Pictogram) -

So we made our way back to the football field after all the groups had passed by our station. There, some random things happened.. Such as Sharon putting grass on Weili's hair -

And Weili trying to tie Xin Miao's hair -

And Ye Qing trying to be fierce - too bad I don't have a photo for this.

The champions -

Some group photos -

Yik Hung receiving the prize:

Okay, I know I've posted many many photos, but there are still some photos which Yik Hung / Sharon have not sent me, and I haven't posted all the photos here either (probably about.. 70%?). Once I have received the rest of the files I will update this post, zip the files up, and put them up for download.

Yupps. That's all from me now. (:
